3D Rowing Boat

A pleasingly minimalist 3D rowing boat.

An Exercise in 3D Modelling

One of my simpler projects here. The Boat was designed and 3D-printed as a Secret Santa present for a friend, although it proved an excellent opportunity to hone my 3D modelling skills.

Out-of-Plane Printing

As a result of the horizontal slicing process, the boat's oars are structurally very weak when printed. It seems obvious to me as a human, that the printer should have built the support structure, then printed the oars in several out-of-plane longitudinal layers. Some googling informed me that out-of-plane printing is indeed a (mathematically-intense) area of current research. Perhaps a modified interface which allows a human to specify specific printing planes would be a simpler, more effective solution.
